Our neighbors are the motivation behind what we do, and we put action behind our words. Join us in supporting the people and businesses who make New York City what it is.

We believe that caring for our community shouldn’t be rare.

APEX FOR YOUTH

ABOUT APEX FOR YOUTH:

In light of increased discrimination of Asian communities in New York City, Find What’s Rare began working with partners of Apex for Youth to amplify its message and donate to its mission to partner highly-marginalized, at-risk Asian youth in New York City with mentors and positive role models and actively decrease food insecurity within these communities.

There are over 140,000 Asian American youth in NYC public schools, of those:

  • 1 in 2 are born into poverty, and continue living in the largest ethnic population living below the poverty line in this city according to the census.

  • 1 in 3 Asian American youth are the only ones who speak English at home, meaning they have to help their parents with paying bills and medical visits, but no one can help them with their school work.

  • 1 in 4 Asian American youth do not graduate on time or at all according to the NYC Department of Education.

  • Asian American adolescent females have one of the highest rates of suicide in this country.

  • And because there is a lack of awareness and representation, city hall allocates only 1% of NYC's budget towards Asian American needs, of which a quarter percent goes towards Asian American youth.

  • Apex for Youth is a K-12 after school program provider serving over 1000 at-risk Asian and immigrant children annually, and we provide our award-winning programs to them for free.

We don’t live in the same New York City as we did before.

The impact of 2020 was widespread like the virus that changed our daily routines and separated us from our neighbors.

But when six feet came between us, the importance of community became more recognizable. It’s definition changed and bore new facets. Community took on the sound of claps from our windows at 7 p.m. It was shown in small donations to struggling businesses or in the streets to demand justice. It became a word of action.

COVID-19 RESPONSE

Find What’s Rare is also financially supporting restaurant and business owners during this uncertain time. We urge you to support the businesses and causes that make up the New York we love!

  • Atrium: The quintessential DUMBO restaurant with industrial architecture mixed with the warmth of a live green wall is located just feet away from water views and the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

  • AlMar: AlMar is centrally located on Front Street in historic DUMBO, one of Brooklyn's most scenic neighborhoods. An authentic and much-loved local venue, it's the perfect spot for breakfast before you tour the waterfront views, a quick and healthy lunch away from the office, or a romantic dinner on the weekends.

  • Operation COVID-19 Garment Revival: Anthony Thomas Galante is a NYC-based designer who is up-cycling unused fabrics to create non-medical grade masks and gowns, which will provide sewers in the city work at an essential and unprecedented time.
